When you think of Gujarat, places like Gir, Dwarka, Somnath, or Rann of Kutch often come to mind. But nestled deep in the southern part of the state lies a lesser-known paradise Dang. I had the chance to visit this beautiful district in July 2025, and I must say, it truly felt like discovering a hidden gem of nature.

Why Visit Dang?
Dang is known for its tribal culture, foggy highlands, and beautiful woods. It’s among the few locations in Gujarat where the natural world still seems unspoiled. The entire area becomes a beautiful wonderland during the monsoon season in July, with waterfalls cascading, clouds hovering over hilltops, and the scent of rainfall permeating every area.
Top Places I Explored in Dang
1. Gira Waterfall
Gira Waterfall was honestly one of the best parts of my trip to Dang. It’s close to Waghai, and during monsoon, it’s just magical. The water was flowing in full force, the sound was so powerful yet peaceful, and everything around was covered in fresh greenery. If you love nature or enjoy clicking good photos, this place is a must-visit.
2. Don Hill Station
Yes, Gujarat actually has its own hill station — Don. Sitting more than 1000 meters above sea level, the weather here is pleasantly cool, and the views are just wow! When I went in July, the roads were covered in soft mist, and the green hills all around made it feel like I was in some mini Mahabaleshwar. Peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a monsoon getaway.
3. Waghai Botanical Garden
If you’re someone who loves plants and greenery, this spot is definitely worth a visit. The garden was full of life during my July trip — everything looked so fresh and colorful after the rain. It’s a calm place where you can just walk around and learn about different types of plants without any rush.
4. Saputara (nearby but must-visit)
Even though Saputara isn’t exactly in Dang, it’s super close — and honestly, you shouldn’t miss it. I added it to my plan, and I’m so glad I did. Boating on Saputara Lake was really relaxing, the ropeway ride gave some amazing views, and the hilltop viewpoints were just next level. It added that extra touch to the whole trip.
How to Reach Dang
Reaching Dang is easier than you’d think, even though it feels like a hidden world once you arrive.
By Road (My choice):
From Ahmedabad, it’s around 380 km — about 7 to 8 hours by car.
Route: Ahmedabad → Baroda → Ankleshwar → Waghai → Ahwa (Dang’s main town)
The last stretch from Waghai to Ahwa is stunning with hills and dense forests.
By Train:
The nearest railway station is Waghai (small station).
Or take a train to Vyara or Bilimora, then hire a cab or bus to reach Ahwa/Dang.
By Bus:
Gujarat ST buses are available from major cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, or Vadodara to Ahwa.
For budget or backpack travel, this is a great option.
Where to Stay in Dang
Since Dang is still a relatively untouched and eco-rich region, don’t expect luxury resorts or 5-star hotels. But that’s what makes it special — the stay options here are close to nature, peaceful, and filled with local charm.
Saputara Hotels & Resorts (Nearby)
Saputara is just 30-40 km from core Dang areas like Ahwa or Waghai, and offers more hotel variety. Options range from budget hotels to mid-range resorts.
